Dr. Ashley Wewege

Dr Ashley Wewege studied medicine at the University of Cape Town, did his internship in Johannesburg and then left the country for 18 months, travelling and working in the United Kingdom and Canada, before returning and specialising in Paediatrics at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in 1998.Shortly after qualifying as a Paediatrician, he joined the then practice of Drs Milne, Martin, Lund, and Arend where he has remained ever since.
His particular interests include that of Infectious Diseases and Immunisation – the latter has been a passion of his and he has served on the Boards of several vaccine pharmaceutical companies in an advisory capacity. He has also spoken widely on several vacccine issues. Two additional interests are that of Nutrition and Allergy.
In 2006/7 he completed a MBA at the Graduate School of Business, UCT, with chosen electives in Advanced Leadership, Planning New Ventures and Future Business Strategy; in 2016, he was re-elected back onto the PMG (Paediatric Management Group) Exco. Given the topic of affordable private healthcare in SA operating in tandem with a future NHI model, he has an active interest in future healthcare models and more particularly the future sustainability of private healthcare.
He is happily married to Sharon, who runs the New Beginnings Baby Breastfeeding and Immunisation Clinic (affiliated to the practice) and has two children, Luke and Sarah – as well as two ‘furry children’ : Charlotte and Olivia . He is a self-confessed foodie, who also holds a Diploma from the Cape Wine Academy. Sporting activities include running/swimming.
