Dr. Lara Smith
MBChB DCH FCP
I studied medicine at the University of Stellenbosch, and then spent time working in all levels of paediatrics and medicine. This included working in the neonatal & paediatric department in the UK, followed by time spent in Khayelitsha day hospital, before qualifying as a Paediatrician at UCT in 2004.
Post qualifying as a paediatrician I worked at Red Cross Hospital in the developmental clinic, infectious diseases clinic and went on many outreach clinics, followed by a year of neonatology at Mowbray Maternity hospital.
I joined Dr Wewege & Associates ( formerly known as Copperfield Child Care ) in private practice in 2006. Most of my time is spent doing general paediatrics and neonatology with additional interests in developmental problems and ADHD. I also particularly enjoy helping new parents with feeding problems and managing children with chronic conditions, such as asthma and allergies, gain control of symptoms. I enjoy working with all ages of children, from small preterm babies to adolescents, each bringing their challenges and personalities.
I am a member of the following professional organisations: ALLSA (Allergy Society of SA), PMG (Paediatric Management Group) & PANDA (Paediatric neurology and developmental association of South Africa).
My outside interests includes cooking, and bird watching with my husband (I just love puffins!), as well as travelling.
